Important Survey to Register for the Temporary Transition Option

Parents and Friends of Star of the Sea School,

Over the past week we have been very hard at work here at Star of the Sea School.  We have been creating safety plans, arranging classrooms, and fielding questions at an unprecedented rate.  These are unprecedented times.  I understand and share the concerns I have heard from so many of you.

I am happy to officially announce that the CISVA is now allowing us to offer a temporary option to those families who were not yet ready to send their children back to school, but want to remain a part of our school community.  They are calling it a “temporary transition option”.  I will take some time now to explain what it will look like and help you decide if it is what is best for your child.

This newly announced option allows your child to receive an at-home learning package each week.  Your child will receive approximately 1 hour per week of grade-level support from a teacher beginning on Monday, September 21st. It is important to note that this support will not be the same as that which was offered following Spring Break as school staff are teaching full-time in their classrooms.   Your child will receive work from school, have some online time with the teachers, and be assessed on the skills being learned.  The primary responsibility for instruction, however, will be on the parent.  Those of you who were considering temporarily homeschooling or being part of a Distributed Learning program for a short amount of time, would be well-served to choose this temporary transition option from Star of the Sea School.

What is the difference between homeschooling, Distributed Learning, and this temporary transition option?

Your child will maintain their classroom placement at Star of the Sea School and will be able to transition back to full-time in-person instruction on either: Tuesday, October 13, 2020, or Monday, November 16, 2020.

The CISVA will decide later in the Fall if this program will be extended beyond November 16th, but this is meant to be a temporary option, not a full-year option.

Normal tuition applies for this option.

If you are choosing this option, we ask you to complete the survey so we can collect the needed information for planning. This new option was only officially announced yesterday so time is very short for implementation as the school year begins next week.

We ask that this survey be completed by Thursday night, September 3rd at the latest.

Only families wishing to choose this temporary remote option are to fill out the survey

We are looking forward to seeing all other students in attendance on September 10th!
