What's Going on in Grade 5?
Hello, Grade 5 Parents!
Happy sunny October! It’s been hotter than April, May and June (and some parts of summer). We’ve been sweating it out in Grade 5, working hard and getting adjusted to the new school year.
The students have learned to use Chromebooks and Google Classroom quite quickly. They are continuing to learn how to use Google Slides and Docs and have been doing a great job.
In Christian Education, the Grade 5 students have been learning about stewardship. Be sure to ask them some questions about what it means and how we have been called to be stewards by God.
In Math, we have just wrapped up patterns and variables and have moved on to place value up to one million. Be sure to check out Google Classroom at “Extra-at-Home” section for some more math practice.
In Science, the students have been learning about forces and machines. They have recently made mini-hovercrafts to understand the transfer of force and energy.
In English Language Arts, the students have begun Book Club reading groups. You may have seen their novel come home. Encourage your child to read aloud each night and ask them questions about the story.
In Social Studies, the students are learning about immigration and why people move to Canada. Do you have any family immigration stories? If so, I encourage you to tell your child those stories. Ask your child what push and pull factors are.
The students were introduced to Spheros last week! They will be using them at some points throughout the year and will learn about using block coding to operate the robots.
