Update on School Masses

Parents and Friends of Star of the Sea School,

Providing opportunities to participate in the Mass is an essential function of a Catholic School. Covid has severely limited our ability to fulfill this function. While we have had the ability to stream Mass online, the experience just isn’t the same.

From now until Christmas Break we have devised a schedule that allows all students the opportunity to go to Mass in person without bringing the entire school together in one space. Our parish priests are accommodating us very generously by having Masses for smaller groups of students each week of Advent.

Here is the schedule for Masses in the next few weeks:

Monday, Nov. 29 Grades 6 & 7

Friday, Dec. 3 Grades 4 & 5

Monday, Dec 6 Grades 2 & 3

Monday, Dec 13 Grades K & 1

All Masses will begin at 11am. Classes will each have their own section of the Church. Parents are welcome to join us but will be asked to follow all covid protocols for the Church and sit at the back, away from the classes.

I am hopeful that this arrangement will give the students a more personal and intimate experience of the Mass and help them to prepare prayerfully for Christmas.

Sincerely,

Mr. Jason Borkowski

Principal

P.S. We will be collecting Food Bank items at each of the Masses. See the tips below regarding Food Bank donations.

1. Everyone donates Kraft Mac and Cheese in the box. They can rarely use it because it needs milk and butter which is hard to get from regular food banks.
2. Boxed milk is a treasure, as kids need it for cereal which they also get a lot of.
3. Everyone donates pasta sauce and spaghetti noodles.
4. They cannot eat all the awesome canned veggies and soup unless you put a can opener in too or buy pop tops.
5. Oil is a luxury but needed for Rice a-Roni which they also get a lot of.
6. Spices or salt and pepper would be a real Christmas gift.
7. Tea bags and coffee make them feel like you care.
8. Sugar and flour are treats.
10. Seeds are cool in Spring and Summer because growing can be easy for some.
12. Tuna and crackers make a good lunch.
13. Hamburger Helper goes nowhere without ground beef.
14. They get lots of peanut butter and jelly but usually not sandwich bread.
17. Cake mix and frosting makes it possible to make a child’s birthday cake.
18. Dishwashing detergent is very expensive and is always appreciated.
19. Feminine hygiene products are a luxury
20. Everyone loves Stove Top Stuffing.
