The Cedar Tree of Life

Celebrating Indigenous People- Learning About the Cedar Tree of Life

Grade One spent all morning outside learning about how and why the Cedar Tree was so important to the West Coast People. We learned how they honoured the tree before they cut it down to use the wood to make totem poles, masks, long houses, and canoes and the bark for weaving baskets, skirts, and blankets. Back in the classroom the students had the opportunity to draw a Cedar Tree. Take a look at their fantastic work!

Please feel free to read about the Cedar Tree of Life!
