PE, Extra-Curricular, and Gym Uniform
Families of Star of the Sea School,
Up until now we have avoided the problem of the safe use of change rooms by having students remain in their regular uniform all-day, including during PE classes. Our change rooms are very small, windowless spaces that do not lend themselves to social distancing when full. At the same time, having students wear their school uniform for PE classes is less than ideal.
Beginning Monday, October 5th, students in all grades may choose to wear the school approved and required uniform sweatpants and sweatshirt (with gym strip underneath) instead of their uniform on days they have PE. Students in Grades 1 to 7 who do not have the sweatpants and sweatshirt (although they should), and students who choose not to wear the sweatpants and sweatshirt, will be given the opportunity to change into their gym strip before and after gym classes.* This should eliminate crowding in the change room and allow appropriate social distancing.
*Kindergarten students without the sweat pants and sweatshirt will simply remain in their regular uniforms.
I hope this change makes the kids a little more comfortable on PE days. We will see how it works for a little while and make changes to this plan as needed.
Sincerely,
Mr. Jason Borkowski
Principal
