Birthday Treats
During the Covid heightened period, birthday treats were prohibited as it was unclear if they presented an increased risk of the spread of infectious disease. As those concerns have waned, we have seen a gradual return of the practice at school.
The absence and then return of these treats has demonstrated to the staff that, while it is a fun custom, the sharing of food-related birthday treats presents several challenges. Food allergies, parental oversight, cleanliness, and fairness are all matters that come into play when it comes to sharing food treats at school.
From now on, you are welcome to share birthday treats with classmates after school. The birthday parent and child are welcome to distribute treats once students are dismissed. This will address many of the the aforementioned challenges without completely restricting the practice for those who wish to continue.
If anyone misses or forgets these new guidelines and sends treats to school, teachers will hold onto the treats and return them with thanks to the parents at pick-up time.
Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.
