A Friendly Reminder About Our Drop-Off Zone
Parents,
Back in the spring, we updated our drop-off procedures and, for a while, things went remarkably smoothly. Thank you again to everyone who adjusted so quickly. However, as often happens over time, some less-safe and inefficient habits have begun to slip back into our morning routine, and it’s time for a reset.
With nearly 475 children arriving within a 20-minute window, our drop-off zone only works when everyone follows the same expectations. Recently, we’ve noticed more drivers exiting their vehicles, waiting for a closer spot to let their children out, or children taking too long to exit the vehicle. These behaviours create congestion, slow everyone down, and most importantly, pose safety risks for students and staff.
A Few Key Reminders
1. The right lane is the drop-off lane.
Please pull forward as far as possible before stopping to let your child out. Once traffic comes to a stop, children should exit the vehicle wherever you are within the drop-off zone. Waiting to move farther ahead before letting your child out doubles the number of stops in the zone and causes unnecessary delays for everyone.
2. The left lane is for parking or driving through.
If you choose the left lane, you must either pull into a designated “back-in only” parking spot or continue straight through. You cannot merge into the drop-off lane after passing the entrance.
3. Try to arrive early.
We cannot unload nearly 500 students within a short time frame. Instead of aiming to arrive at 8:50 am on the nose, arrive in the 8:40-8:50 am time window. Supervisors are outside at 8:30 am to look after early arrivals.
4. Have children prepared for a swift exit.
Bags should be on your child’s lap as you enter the drop-off zone for a quick exit. Students should not go to the back door or trunk to retrieve their belongings.
Why This Matters
Our goal is simple: a safe, efficient drop-off each morning. The more consistent we are with traffic flow, the safer this process becomes for everyone.
We will continue to monitor the flow and make adjustments as needed. Thank you for working with us to maintain a safe and orderly start to each school day. Your cooperation truly makes a difference.
Sincerely,
Mr. Borkowski
