Tips on Asking for Walk-a-thon Pledges

We are happy that so many students are working hard to get walk-a-thon pledges. Here are two things for students to remember to make it a positive experience for themselves and the donors:

1) What we are fundraising for

We are raising funds for two important causes. Firstly, we are contributing 25% of the proceeds of this year’s walk-a-thon to the Chalice Christmas Catalogue Program. This program helps disadvantaged children around the world.

Secondly, we are contributing 75% of proceeds to complete the renovations of our ventilation and air conditioning systems at the school. This will make our school a cleaner and more comfortable place to learn.

Students should present the prospective donor with this information and have the pledge form from the school in hand.

2) How to ask for pledges

Students should always remember that they are representing their school when asking for pledges, even if it is from a family member. Look the donor in the eye, use “please” and “thank you”, and be gracious when the answer is “no.” Just as important as the money raised is the positive impression we make on those we interact with.

It has been brought to our attention that some students have been going door-to-door to ask neighbours for pledges. This is not an expectation of the school. If students do go door-to-door, they should always be accompanied by a parent to be safe.
