Scientist Visit

On Monday January 18, Grade One was SO EXCITED to have “Cosmic Karen” from High Tech, High Touch present an “in-class field trip.” We learned that matter can be in three states: Liquid, Solid, Gas. We practised using pipettes to place water drops on pennies (surface tension), combined a solid (baking soda) with a liquid (vinegar) to make a gas (carbon dioxide), and even brought home OOBLECK (cornstarch + water) which sometimes acts as a solid (when pressure is applied) and sometimes acts as a liquid (also known as a non-Newtononian compound!). Science in Gr 1 is SO FUN!
