Residential School Tragedy

Parents and Friends of Star of the Sea School,

Like all of you, I was greatly saddened by the discovery of the remains of undocumented victims of a residential school in Kamloops.

Our own Archbishop Miller issued the following statement…

"I am filled with deep sadness at the troubling news about the 215 children found buried at the Kamloops Indian Residential School. The pain that such news causes reminds us of our ongoing need to bring to light every tragic situation that occurred in residential schools run by the Church.

The passage of time does not erase the suffering that touches the Indigenous communities affected and we pledge to do whatever we can to heal that suffering."

Today we took time as an entire school to pray for the victims of residential schools. CLICK HERE for the prayer we shared. We also joined all CISVA schools in a moment of silence at 2:15pm.

On Wednesday, June 2nd, we will have another Orange Shirt Day so that students can raise awareness of this tragic part of our history and continue to learn and pray for truth and reconciliation.

Sincerely,

Mr. Jason Borkowski

Principal
