Sight Words
Please continue to practice the first 25 words from the FRY sight word list, if your child has not already mastered these. The FRY sight words are a list of the most commonly appearing words in children’s text, many of which cannot necessarily be read by ‘sounding-out’ and must be memorized. Reading sight words with automaticity, when combined with solid phonic skills, can help students achieve reading fluency sooner. Please click the link to download a copy of the list of 25 and suggestions for meaningful home learning. We will actively work on learning these words in class, but home practice will be invaluable to your child’s success as a reader.
Social Emotional Learning
The focus of our social-emotional learning recently has been on friendship - strategies for making friends, managing problems, inclusion/exclusion and considering the thoughts and feelings of others. Please reinforce these topics with conversations at home.
Student Led Conferences
Friday, March 7th is our Student Led Conferences. This is an opportunity for your child to show you around their classroom and all their work. This is not a regular school day. Students and parents are to come only for their assigned 30 minute time. Students are expected to be in school uniform. Please note: This time is student led only. If you need to speak to the teacher about your child’s progress, please email them to set-up an appointment at a different time.
To book your appointment, please visit www.schoolinterviews.ca and enter our school code b6p9g
Eyes and Ears Testing
In the past, it was standard practice for Public Health to visit Kindergarten classes to complete standard Eyes and Ears testing. While this does not happen anymore, we strongly suggest your child's eyes and ears are tested regularly to ensure their hearing and vision are developing properly for their overall growth and learning.
Thank you
We would like to thank the parents who came in to talk to the students about their jobs in the community. These sessions were very informative and meaningful to the students and we appreciate you taking the time enrich our study of Communities.
