Kindergarten March News

March is a short month with Spring Break. Here are a few pieces of news and information for the month ahead.

  • Please return report card folders and envelopes - we will reuse these for the June progress report.

  • Our social-emotional learning for the next several weeks will focus on friendship - strategies for making friends, managing problems, inclusion/exclusion and considering the thoughts and feelings of others. Please reinforce these topics with conversations at home.

  • Please continue to practice the first 25 words from the FRY sight word list. The FRY sight words are a list of the most commonly appearing words in children’s text, many of which cannot necessarily be read by ‘sounding-out’ and must be memorized. Reading sight words with automaticity, when combined with solid phonic skills, can help students achieve reading fluency sooner. Please click the link to download a copy of the list of 25 and suggestions for meaningful home learning. We will actively work on learning these words in class, but home practice will be invaluable to your child’s success as a reader.

Important Dates

  • March 2 - Ash Wednesday - students wear full uniform to school (no gym clothes today please)

  • March 11 - Last day of school before spring break

  • March 28 - Return to school
