Save the Date

Our last field trip for the year will be on Thursday, June 18th at Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery. Our hope is to have as many Dads join us as possible as a special Father’s Day event. However, if Dad is unable to attend, Grandpa, Mom, or any other adult is certainly welcome. It is very helpful for each child to have someone with them on this field trip to assist with fishing.

Valentine’s Day

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day in school on February 11. Sending items, cards/treats to school is not an expectation. However, if you and your child wish to do this, please consider the following guidelines as you plan.

CARDS

If you wish to share Valentine’s cards with friends, please ensure that you include one for each member of our class (20). Ideally, cards will not be addressed to specific people. Please leave the ‘to’ field blank and simply write ‘from___’. This will make delivery in the classroom easier for the students (and their teachers).

TREATS

Treats should be small and packaged with ingredients visible. Please do not send any nut products or homemade goodies.

VALENTINE’S MAILBOX

Please send a box, covered in plain paper and ready to decorate, to school on or before Tuesday, February 3rd (approximately cereal box size). We will be using them as ‘mailboxes’ to collect our Valentine’s cards/treats in the classroom.

DRESS-DOWN DAY

Students may wear Valentine’s coloured play clothes to school on February 11th. No uniform required.

Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. Traditionally, it was a time to use up rich ingredients such as eggs, milk, and butter before the Lenten season of simplicity. Pancakes became a practical (and well-loved) way to do this, and the tradition continues today.

Primary students will be having a pancake on this special day, so please let us know about any food allergies or sensitivities.

Community Workers

As part of our Social Studies Unit this term, we will be looking at some workers in our Community. If you are a doctor, nurse, firefighter, police officer, dentist (to name a few and not limited to), and would like to do a short presentation on your job, please contact your child’s teacher with dates and times in February you are available.
