Christmas Message from M. Borkowski

Dear Families and Friends of Star of the Sea School,

This year’s school Christmas concert was deeply touching. Toward the end of the show, as the students sang and spoke about the great sign of God’s love that is Christmas, I was reminded of a quote from St. Therese of Lisieux: “A God who became so small could only be mercy and love.”

Humility and “smallness” are recurring themes in Therese’s writings, particularly in The Story of a Soul. To love as God loves, we too must embrace humility and make ourselves “small” in the sense of becoming less concerned with our own importance. It is through this humility that we open ourselves fully to God’s love.

God’s willingness to become small—taking the form of a baby on Christmas Day—is a profound example we are called to follow. Children, especially young children, often understand this truth more naturally than we do as adults. May we follow this example and allow God to transform our hearts and lives this Christmas season.

Finally, as we break for Christmas holidays, I want to thank you all for the gifts, the words of affirmation, and the support you offer every single day.  I feel so blessed to be a part of this community.  May your Christmas be filled with joy and peace.

Sincerely,

Mr. Borkowski
